We had a good walk this morning. We reached Namche in 3 hours and headed straight to the comforts of Cafe 8848 for lunch, expresso coffee and beer battered fish and chips! Quite a change from the diet of Hillary on his successful Everest expedition.

Everest and Lhotse spring 8AM
The excitement is building. Pack bags and drums (tick), last minute errands (tick), fuel up on protein and desserts (tick tick), fly out to Lukla without hiccups (tick tick tick !!). And they are off. The team is a few days behind the Canadian Lhotse team who are already in Namche.
It’s a chilly spring with the mountains surrounding Lukla covered in snow. The group trekking up with Sumit includes Chris Burke (Lhotse, Australia/NZ), Carol Masheter (EBC, Island peak…already an Everest summitter, USA), Margaret St Hill (Everest, Australia) and Warren Townsend (Everest, Australia). Keep posted for news from the trail.
Happy to be in Lukla 6PM
Nice and cold in Lukla…down jackets already at 2800m.
What’s to come at 8848m??!! The team is in Monjo tonight.
Everest/Lhotse 2013 season about to kick off! 3PM
We’re on the eve of kicking off our Everest and Lhotse spring 2013 season! We’re super excited this year to be leading an expedition on Lhotse alongside our annual Everest trip.
Lakpa, Angkaji, Jangbu, Dendi (long man), Chirring, Pasang, Rabin, Anil and others have finished establishing base camp at the foot of the Khumbu ice fall. The tents are up and camp is ready to welcome the Canadian Lhotse team who just departed for Lukla early today. The rest of the climbers are arriving later this week and will trek up with Sumit on March 30th.
Word from base camp is that it’s cold and snowy….all good signs for good climbing.
First Myanmar Everest summit and more
We report an awesome day on Everest today, good weather and a strong team effort from everyone. Our team from Myanmar summited Everest this morning at 7.15am, Win Ko Ko and Pyae Phyo Aung, are the first to represent their country on the top of the world today! They were followed by Brazilians, Carlos Santalena and Thais Amadei Pegoraro, who summited at 12.05pm. Both teams were supported by our tireless Sherpas, Lopsang Sherpa, Pasang Gyaljen Sherpa, Ngima Tenzing Sherpa, Fura Chettan Sherpa and Fur Gyaljen Sherpa. Congratulations to everyone!Everyone is on the decent back to EBC… for a very rowdy celebration party!
Everest team at South col, ready for the summit
The team are on their summit push and are currently resting at C4 (South col). It was windy at C3 last night and they did well to reach the South col in good time this morning. We are an 11 person team, 4 clients and 7 Sherpa guides. Weather being all good they will start at 9pm toni

ght for a summit in the early morning.

Ready for summit, waiting for a good weather window
Well we’re all set to go, our Sherpas have finished stocking the South Col and are now taking a rest at EBC. We’re aiming for a date soon after the 19th as the next good weather window for the summit. Everest was summited first this season by the Sherpa line fixers on the 11th, and there have already been a few summits after them. Next week we should be up there if all goes to plan. Everyone is well and healthy at EBC. We’ll update you on the summit push.
Ending season with summits on Ama Dablam 10AM
Chris Burke achieved her 1st summit on Ama Dablam with Lakpa (his 21st!!!!) on Nov 29th. Ama Dablam has been a goal of Chris’ for a while after sickness foiled her 1st attempt in 2010. Feeling fit off Parchermo this time around, Chris topped out in good spirits, even after they were pushed back to base camp during the 1st summit bid by strong winds. Due to the lateness in the season, Chris enjoyed the mountain alone without other teams. A real treat as Ama Dablam is a popular peak in autumn.
This ends our autumn 2012 season with a total of 15 summits on Ama Dablam over 7 expeditions, 17 summits on Lobuche East over 6 expeditions, 2 summits of Island Peak and 1 summit of Parchermo not including Sherpa support climbers!!! We’ve had a good season with diverse climbing and trekking trips throughout the country (Putha Hiunchuli, Parchermo, Lobuche East, Ama Dablam, 3 Peaks, Very Best of Everest, Manaslu Circuit Trek and Annapurna base camp trek).
We’ll take a break now to rest before our winter season opens in a few weeks. Stay tuned for news of our promotional tour in Australia in 2013.
Summits #4 and 5, and #19 for Lakpa on Ama Dablam! 8PM
Matt Eaton and Nima Sherpa led by Lakpa summitted Ama Dablam this morning at 9am! Awesome work by the boys, especially Lakpa who now carries 19 summits to his name on Ama Dablam.
If Lapka doesn’t complete #20 later this season, we will surely be planning a special expedition in honour of his 20th next year! Stay tuned if you want to be part of that party on the summit.
Ama Dablam summit for Diane and Marty 11.30AM
Just received terrific news from Lakpa that Diane and Marty have successfully summited Ama Dablam today at 11am! The pair are descending now.
It’s Himalayan Ascent’s 2nd success this season and fingers crossed more to come next week. Diane and Marty have followed the success of Marie Helene having summited both Lobuche East and Ama Dablam in one season. Climb on!
